SLFP will support abolition of Executive Presidency

Sri Lanka Freedom Party ( SLFP) will support the abolition of the Executive presidency, it’s Chairman Maithripala Sirisena said yesterday.

Speaking during a seminar organized by his party he said his party will support a constitutional amendment to abolish the presidency. “, We have heard that there is a move to abolish the executive presidency. However we are ready to support such a move,”  Sirisena said.   

Sirisena who is a former Executive Presidency pledged to abolish the presidency when he became the common opposition candidate for the presidential election in 2015 and managed to reduce some powers of the President through the 19th amendment to the constitution.
