The Vavuniya Hospital performed life-saving surgery to remove a wooden rod in the neck of a man who was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

The patient, who fell and accidentally impaled himself with the wooden rod while working in a field, was rushed to hospital yesterday (25).

A team of doctors and nurses, led by surgeon Dr. Rajeev Nirmalasingham and anesthesiologist Dr. Nageswaran, carried out the operation, which not only removed the rod but also saved the man’s life.  The patient is currently in a stable condition.
