The inaugural Members Night of the Sri Lankan Bankers Association in the UAE (SLBA - UAE) was held recently, at Crown Plaza in Deira, Dubai.

With the overarching theme of ‘Connect, Collaborate and Engage’, the event aimed to unite Sri Lankan banking professionals in a night dedicated to networking and camaraderie, fostering a stronger sense of togetherness within the community.

The SLBA - UAE, a member association of the Sri Lankan Professional Association (SLPA - UAE) registered as SLPA LLC - FZ, was inaugurated in June 2023 by the enthusiastic Sri Lankan banking community residing in the UAE. The present membership of the SLBA - UAE exceeds 200 professional bankers in the UAE and is rapidly increasing with regular new registrations.

The distinguished guests at the event included the SLBA patrons, ambassador of Sri Lanka in the UAE and consul general of Sri Lanka for Dubai and Northern Emirates. Additionally, the gathering saw the recognition of more than 20 esteemed figures from the Sri Lankan banking community.

The evening commenced with a welcoming address from SLBA President Isthiaq Raziq, extending a welcome greeting to over a 100 distinguished SLBA members, invitees, dignitaries and industry professionals. Aligned with the SLBA’s commitment to advancing industry best practices, Dusty Alahakoon of the Next Education Group delivered an engaging presentation titled ‘Digital Transformation in the Banking Industry and Employability’.
Following this insightful presentation, Ambassador of Sri Lanka Udaya Indrarathna and Consul General of Sri Lanka Alexi Gunasekera delivered speeches appreciating the role played by the Sri Lankan banking community within the UAE. Mementoes were then distributed by the ambassador and SLBA president to the banking professionals in recognition of exemplary service.

The formalities of the Members Night concluded with a vote of thanks from General Secretary Reza Latiff, inviting everyone to enjoy the remaining part of the evening.

The attendees thoroughly enjoyed the evening, indulging in a delectable buffet and grooving to the lively music provided by Rhythmix. The highlight of the evening was a surprise raffle draw held for all attending SLBA members. Seven lucky winners walked away with valuable prizes, which included a grand prize of a return air ticket, courtesy of Air Arabia, to any destination of the winner’s choice.
