Risking their lives to spot a seal...

We Sri Lankans are not known to heed warnings or to follow simple instructions. This is clearly evident from what is happening along the Wellawata Beach these days when people visit the place to take a glimpse of the marooned seal that is resting among the boulders. The mammal is being protected by the police environment unit and wildlife officers from the crowds trying to take photos and selfies. Even at some places where there is barely any space between the railway tracks and boulders, people have gathered to watch the animal. Without paying any attention to the movement of trains, people were seen recklessly crossing the rail tracks.
