Caritas Sri Lanka–SEDEC, the social arm of the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka celebrated International Peace Day today (22) with a special programme held under the theme ‘Act Now for a Peaceful Society’.
The Caritas Sri Lanka–SEDEC, which is committed to peace, justice and community harmony conducted a programme that featured a panel discussion on peace building and the launch of a book on unheard voices of war victims.
Chairman of the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR) Vijitha Rohana Fernando was the Chief Guest of the event, whilst Chairman Catholic National Commission for Missionary Activities and Bishop of Kandy Most. Rev. Dr. Valence Mendis graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
Rev. Fr. Bennette Mallewa, Deputy Director Office for National Unity and Reconciliation Sanduni Ariyawansa and Venerable Nawadankulame Medanandha Thero were the panelists.
National Director-Caritas Sri Lanka-SEDEC Rev. Fr. Luke Nelson Perera, Head of Unit - Sustainable Peace and Justice, Caritas Sri Lanka SEDEC Sr. Ushani Perera were also present at the ceremony.
Through ongoing programmes in reconciliation, community development and humanitarian support, Caritas Sri Lanka strives to nurture dialogue, understanding and mutual respect.
