USA to support digitalizing of naval and aviation sectors

US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung said Sri Lanka will have to face special challenges in digitalization using new technology; more attention should be paid to protect the security of data and the United States is working to provide the necessary technology to Sri Lanka, in the process of modernization of Sri Lanka’s Naval and aviation sectors.
The ambassador emphasized these facts when she met Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva at his office recently.

The ambassador praised the government’s programme to expand Sri Lanka’s shipping and aviation sectors and said that American investment opportunities will be provided to Sri Lanka.
Minister de Silva said, “The new policies necessary for the development of Sri Lanka’s shipping and aviation sector in a manner suitable for the future have been made under the guidance of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and through this, the sector will be maintained without burdening the government”.
The minister also said that there are many investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s shipping and aviation sector and said that he would invite American investors for that.

The discussion was attended by the officials of the American Embassy, Dustin R. Bickel, Daniel Moon and wife, Thiloma Abeynayake, Additional Secretary of the Ministry Nayana Somaratne, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority G. S. Vithanage, Director General P. A. Jayakantha, Airport and Air Services Company Chairman retired Major General G. Chandrasiri and Port Authority Chairman Keith Barnard.
