WindForce PLC and Vidullanka PLC, two of Sri Lanka’s leading renewable energy developers, have each announced that they have emerged as the lowest cost bidders for the 50-megawatt (MW) Mullikulam Wind Power Project.
The project is a key development under the Ceylon Electricity Board’s (CEB) latest push to expand the nation’s clean energy capacity.
In separate filings to the Colombo Stock Exchange this week, both companies said they had submitted the lowest bids
of the project.
WindForce, in a disclosure yesterday, said its proposal for Lot 1 had been identified as the lowest cost bid, describing it as “a significant step toward securing the contract for this major renewable energy development”. The company added that while the formal award of the contract remains pending, the outcome is considered price-sensitive, due to its implications for future operations, material contracts and long-term
financial outlook.
Vidullanka, in its filing a day earlier, said that together with its consortium partner, the David Pieris group, it had emerged as the lowest cost bidder for the same project. The company called it “a material step forward” in its bid to secure the contract, noting that the information was disclosed due to its direct relevance to the firm’s business prospects and
financial performance. Both companies stressed that the statements were forward-looking and subject to the final awarding process, regulatory clearances and execution of formal agreements.
The 50MW Mullikulam Wind Power Project, first opened for bids earlier this year, forms part of the CEB’s plan to add 100MW of new wind capacity through two facilities in the northwestern region. The projects are being developed on a build, own and operate basis, under 20-year agreements, with the goal of advancing Sri Lanka’s renewable energy share and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
