Sri Lanka is to co-host the 2026 Asian Regional Debt Management Conference, following Cabinet approval of a proposal presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
The conference, hosted annually by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka in late May 2026 and will run for four to five days. It will bring together senior officials from finance ministries, central banks, debt management offices and related institutions from ADB member countries.
The event will feature technical workshops, surveys and knowledge-sharing sessions focused on public debt management operations, emerging challenges and new policy approaches, at a time when many Asian economies continue to grapple with post-crisis debt sustainability issues.
The Department of Government Information noted hosting the conference would help enhance Sri Lanka’s international standing in the field of public debt management, while strengthening bilateral and regional ties with Asian economies and international financial institutions.
The conference is also expected to support capacity building by enabling local officials to engage directly with regional peers and global experts, exchange best practices and gain exposure to evolving debt management frameworks.
