SL targets 6% growth, budget deficit at 4.7% in 2017

REUTERS: Sri Lanka will prepare a budget that aims to achieve 6 percent economic growth and maintain a budget deficit at 4.7 percent of gross domestic product, a government document said yesterday.


The government has also approved a cabinet proposal by Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake to prepare the 2017 budget to maintain minimum inflation and unemployment affirming a public investment of 5 percent of GDP, the document said.


The Central Bank has estimated economic growth of 5.8 percent and a budget deficit of 5.4 percent of GDP this year.
