Ceylon Tea production rose slightly in October, supported by the gains in the low-grown sector, although the overall output remained below 2023 levels, the data from Forbes & Walker Research showed on Thursday.
The country produced 21.78 million kilogrammes of tea in October, up from 21.28 million kilogrammes a year earlier. All elevations posted declines, except the low-grown teas, which recorded an increase. The output, however, fell short of 23.0 million kilogrammes produced in October 2023.
Production in the first 10 months of 2025 reached 220.97 million kilogrammes, compared with the 218.15 million kilogrammes in the same period last year. All elevations registered gains against 2024. The cumulative figure was also higher than the 216.49 million kilogrammes recorded in January-October 2023, with all segments except the high-grown teas showing a year-on-year growth.
