The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has extended the deadline for filing returns of income for the year of assessment 2024/2025 to December 31, 2025, following the disruptions caused by Cyclone Ditwah and extreme weather conditions across the country.
Under Inland Revenue Act No. 24 of 2017, the taxpayers were originally required to submit returns by November 30, 2025 and then December 8. However, many individuals and representatives were unable to meet the deadline, due to the impact of the storm.
The IRD clarified that the taxpayers who file by the new deadline would not face penalties, assessments or criminal proceedings for late submission.
The department urged all affected taxpayers to take advantage of the grace period.
“The extension is intended to accommodate the taxpayers who were prevented from meeting the original deadline due to the natural calamities,” the Commissioner General of Inland Revenue stated.
