The Free Trade Zone Manufacturers’ Association (FTZMA) has recommended to the Export Development Board (EDB) the resumption of the Export Forum and creation of a thriving environment for the sector.
This recommendation came about during a recent courtesy call by FTZMA Chairman Dhammika Fernando and the Executive Members to EDB Chairman Dr. Kingsley Bernard.
The primary objective of the meeting was to identify opportunities for mutual cooperation in advancing the shared goals of the FTZMA and EDB, to foster a thriving environment for the country’s export sector.
During the meeting, Dr. Bernard reiterated the board’s unwavering commitment to providing invaluable services to support the growth of the country’s exports.
Fernando requested the EDB’s assistance in sharing knowledge and data related to potential export markets, products in demand in those markets, trade statistics and tariffs of regional countries competing with Sri Lanka’s exports.
Furthermore, it was agreed that collaborative efforts would be made to resume the Export Forum, which plays a crucial role in expeditiously resolving the issues faced by the exporter community. The forum facilitates high-level, cross-government deliberation to enhance the country's exports.
