Leading Sri Lankan freight forwarding company, EFL (Expolanka Freight) made history after it became the first South Asian company in its industry to be awarded ISO 14064-1:2006 certification.
The award from the Sustainable Future Group (SFG) was made in recognition of the consistent efforts made by a company to establish a framework to quantify and report on their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in accordance with ISO’s strict requirements, as well as implementing a Carbon Management Plan to work towards reducing emissions where possible.
SFG is itself the first Asian organization to be accredited by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) via the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB), to provide ISO 14064-1 & 2 verification and certification services.
Speaking on the achievement, EFL Sri Lanka Managing Director – Saif Yusoof, remarked, “We are continuously seeking out new methods and strategies which can enable Expolanka Freight to do more against in the fight against the negative effects of climate change.
“This certification is a testament to the dedication shown by our staff towards sustainability and in particular, towards minimizing our Carbon Footprint. We started as being the first company in the industry to be CarbonNeutral and are honored to now being the first in South Asia to receive recognition in the form of another globally accepted environmental credential.”
Lakmini Senadheera, Manager for Sustainability Assurance & Advisory Services at SFG, who was present at the official certificate handover added, “We’re pleased to work with EFL, who have long stressed on the importance of being a leader in sustainability. On behalf of SFG, I’m happy to report that they have satisfied the stringent criteria required to obtain ISO 14064-1 certification, and we wish EFL the very best in their future sustainability endeavours.”
