Sri Lanka’s tax office has extended the deadline for filing income returns by eight days, offering relief to taxpayers struggling with disruptions caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) said the statutory deadline for submitting income tax returns for the 2024/25 assessment year, originally due on November 30, has been relaxed in light of the severe weather that has impeded access to services and documentation.
Accordingly, the IRD will refrain from taking action against late submissions if returns are filed on or before December 8. The move is aimed at preventing compliance lapses during a period when thousands of households and businesses are coping with the fallout of the storm.
The tax authority urged affected taxpayers to make use of the grace period and complete their filings without delay.
