The Cabinet of Ministers this week approved an amendment to the Shop and Office Employees (Regulation of Employment and Remuneration) Act No. 19 of 1954.
This amendment allows female employees to work night shifts in offices involved in information technology, knowledge outsourcing, business process outsourcing, as well as offices engaged in accounting, administration, and technical activities for overseas business establishments.

The Attorney General has cleared the draft bill for the Shop and Office Employees (Regulation of Employment and Remuneration) (Amendment) Act, prepared by the Legal Draftsman.
Consequently, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment to publish the draft bill in the Government Gazette and subsequently present it to parliament for approval.
