The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) has taken a landmark step in advancing the national sustainability drive with the launch of the Faculty of Sustainability Reporting & ESG Leadership.
This significant initiative comes at a time when global business landscapes are shifting rapidly, and sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) considerations have become fundamental to long-term value creation and responsible corporate behaviour.
The faculty was inaugurated by CA Sri Lanka President Tishan Subasinghe, in the presence of Vice President Anoji De Silva, Sustainability Disclosure Standards Committee Chairman Ashane Jayasekera, Alternate Chairman Suranga Indunil, Business School Chairperson Chamila Cooray and Chief Executive Officer Lakmali Priyangika.
Alongside this initiative, CA Sri Lanka also launched the Certified Sustainability Reporting and Strategy Advisor (CSRSA) qualification, a comprehensive professional pathway developed to equip participants with deep technical and strategic knowledge in sustainability reporting and assurance as well as the integration of sustainability principles into core business decision-making. In an effort to strengthen national capacity in sustainable business transformation, the CSRSA qualification is designed to support organisations as they adapt to global regulatory changes and stakeholder expectations.
Subasinghe said, “The world is undergoing a profound transformation where sustainability and responsible governance are no longer aspirational concepts but core drivers of long-term value creation. As the national body of accountants, CA Sri Lanka has a responsibility to ensure that our professionals remain at the forefront of this change. The launch of the Faculty of the Sustainability Reporting and ESG Leadership and the CSRSA qualification is timely and essential.”
He further explained that through this initiative, CA Sri Lanka would equip professionals with the advanced knowledge and strategic insight required to guide organisations towards responsible, transparent and future-ready decision-making. “These initiatives are an investment in the country’s future resilience, competitiveness and global relevance,” Subasinghe added.
CA Sri Lanka developed the CSRSA qualification as a structured three-tier programme comprising Foundation, Application and Expert levels. These levels lead to the Advanced Certificate, Diploma and Higher Diploma in Sustainability Reporting and Strategy, respectively.
Each stage has been designed to progressively enhance the participants technical competence and strategic perspective, ultimately preparing them to advice boards of directors and senior leadership on aligning sustainability with governance, risk management and business strategy. Certificates are awarded at the completion of each level, enabling professionals to steadily advance their expertise.
Following the launch, CA Sri Lanka commenced the inaugural Level 1 batch of the programme, marking the beginning of the CSRSA journey for its participants. The programme delivers significant value by equipping professionals with globally recognised expertise in sustainability reporting and assurance, while strengthening their ability to link financial performance with broader organisational sustainability objectives.
