Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka for the first five days of November totalled 22, 202, showing an improved inflow rate from the previous month.
Provisional data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) showed that the daily arrival average has improved to 4,400.
Accordingly, the cumulative arrivals for 1 January to 5 November 2023 totalled 1, 147, 657.
Meanwhile, in November 2023, there is a notable shift in the source markets for Sri Lanka’s tourism, which marks a significant change for the first time this year. However, it may still be too early to reach any conclusions.
For the first time this year, India has shifted from its position as the largest source of tourist traffic for Sri Lanka to the second position during the period under consideration.
The neighbouring giant accounted for 18 percent of the total arrivals in November.
Taking over India and topping the list was the Russian Federation, which brought in 20 percent of the total arrivals for November.
Pushing the United Kingdom, from being the third largest source market to fourth position was Germany, accounting for 9 percent of the total arrivals.
Sri Lanka expects to end 2023 with 1.5 million tourists.
