WHO issues new report: SL in Community Transmission Level 3

A new report by the World Health Organisation reclassifies Community Transmission into four levels and several health experts observed that Sri Lanka is already in Level 3. 

  According to the new classification, Level 3 indicates high incidence of locally acquired widely dispersed cases in the past 14 days. As per the situational assessment, four more situational levels have also been defined and Situational Level 3 is defined as a situation of community transmission with limited additional capacity to respond and a risk of health services being overwhelmed.   

Responding to a query,  Health Ministry media spokesperson Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara said that we are in a situation with limited resources and authorities are therefore seeking public support to bring the situation under control.  (Kamanthi Wickramasinghe)
