Three persons posing as Public Health Inspectors(PHIs) performing PCR tests at a house at Kettapauwa in Mahawa, had robbed Rs. 300,000 worth gold jewellery from residents.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the Mahawa Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
A group of three persons had arrived at a house in the Kettapahuwa area in Mahawa between 3.30 pm and 4.00 pm yesterday, stating that they were health officials adding that PCR examinations should be carried out on the husband and wife who were at the house. It is reported that the group had drugged the residents prior to the test.
The victims woke up this morning and failed to recollect the events of the previous day. All jewellery belonging to the residents had been robbed.(DSB)
