State bank technician arrested over May 9 unrest

A technician attached to a state bank in Colombo, suspected to have set fire to a landcruiser type jeep in the premises of Nittambuwa Police during the violence on May 9 last year, had been arrested.

Police said the suspect was arrested yesterday based on the information revealed during the investigation of overturning and setting fire to a luxury 4-wheel driven vehicle in the premises of Nittambuwa Police Station during the violent incidents that took place in Nittambuwa town last year.

The suspect, a 40-year-old resident of Bandaragama and temporarily residing in Ranpokunugama was arrested in ​​Nittambuwa.

He is to be produced before the Attanagalla Magistrate's Court.
