Colombo, June 16 (Daily Mirror) - Based on intelligence received, a special operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard in coordination with the Sri Lanka Navy led to the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of a lorry transporting a large stock of illicit goods in the Kammala Wella beach area in Chilaw yesterday (15).
During the operation, authorities recovered over 2,000 kg of kendu leaves and 41,000 beedi sticks being transported in the lorry. The estimated street value of the seized consignment is believed to exceed Rs. 14 million.
The suspect, along with the seized stock and the vehicle, was handed over to the Excise Department Office in Biyagama for further investigations and legal proceedings.
