Colombo, May 28 (Daily Mirror) - Highlighting that ‘menstruation’ of women had become a major social and health issue, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said today that reducing taxes on sanitary products and thereby reducing prices will help resolve the issue.
Speaking during a discussion at his office, the Opposition Leader said countries such as the UK and India have maintained low taxes on sanitary products and thereby managed to address the issue.
“Sri Lanka should also go for a similar policy,” he said.
Also, he said the right to seek help for menstruation could be considered as a fundamental right that has to be guaranteed by the Constitution.
