President’s New Year message highlights unity, prosperity and renewal

Colombo, April 14 (Daily Mirror) - Marking the auspicious transition of the sun and the arrival of the spring harvest season, the Sinhala and Tamil New Year has dawned once again, celebrated by Sri Lankans since ancient times.

In his New Year message, the President said the festival is not merely a celebration, but a symbol of prosperity, unity, coexistence, and the strengthening of social bonds rooted in cultural values.

He extended greetings to all Sri Lankans observing traditional customs at the auspicious time, wishing peace and prosperity for the New Year.

The message noted that the New Year brings the nation together through shared traditions, offering an opportunity for renewed hope despite daily challenges.

He further highlighted that the true blessing of the season lies in setting aside differences and embracing a fresh start in unity and goodwill, especially amid global economic and natural challenges.

Special greetings were also extended to Sri Lankans working abroad, including those in the Middle East, with wishes for their safety and well-being.

Calling for renewed determination to overcome obstacles, the message urged collective effort towards building a more prosperous nation, concluding with wishes for a happy and blessed Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
