Colombo, March 11 (Daily Mirror) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has begun an investigation into the shooting death of underworld gang leader Makandure Madush, who was killed by two unknown gunmen while in the custody of the Colombo Crimes Division in 2020.

Police said that statements will be recorded from the officers who escorted Madush to the Maligawatte area on the day of the incident.

Madush was taken to Maligawatte on October 20, 2020, to assist officers in seizing a stock of drugs based on information he provided. During the operation, he was shot by two unidentified assailants.

The investigation was referred to the CID by the Inspector General of Police following a request from Madush’s brother to the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security.

Police said that the Colombo Magistrate's Court issued orders to record statements from the attending medical officer and to obtain media footage connected to the killing.
