Colombo, January 26 (Daily Mirror) - In response to criticism regarding why former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's son Yoshitha Rajapaksa was not handcuffed during his arrest, the police clarified that it is not necessary to handcuff every suspect who is arrested.

Police spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga explained that the officer on duty at the time decides whether or not to handcuff the suspect based on their behaviour.

Meanwhile, in response to the photograph of Yoshitha Rajapaksa taken during his arrest, which is currently circulating on social media, the spokesman clarified that the photograph was not taken at the Criminal Investigation Department or by a police officer.

The spokesman said that the photograph was taken while Yoshitha Rajapaksa was being held at the Beliatta Expressway checkpoint and was likely taken by a friend or another individual.
