Colombo, June 4 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 360 cyber-related financial fraud incidents have been reported so far this year in Sri Lanka, according to the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT).
Lead Information Security Engineer Charuka Damunupola said 14 of the reported cases involve children, raising concerns over the increasing exposure of minors to online scams and digital threats.
He further noted that 40 cases of WhatsApp account hacking have also been reported, indicating a growing trend of social media–based cyberattacks targeting users across the country.
SLCERT has advised internet users to remain vigilant and exercise caution when using online platforms, particularly by verifying the authenticity of websites and links before sharing personal details or making online payments.
