Over 1,600 families affected by severe weather across country

Colombo, May 22 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 1,651 families, comprising nearly 5,500 individuals, have been affected by the prevailing adverse weather conditions across the country, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).

The DMC said that 234 houses had suffered partial damage, while six houses were completely destroyed due to heavy rains and strong winds.

Authorities also confirmed that two deaths have been reported so far as a result of the severe weather conditions.

Meanwhile, emergency response teams have been deployed to the affected areas, while relief operations are underway to assist displaced families and provide necessary support.
