Colombo, May 22 (Daily Mirror) - The Opposition today called for a party leaders’ meeting to discuss the current economic crisis and decide what Parliament could do about it, while the ruling party said there is no such necessity.

Chief Opposition Whip Gayantha Karunatillaka who raised the issue said the Opposition has decided to call for a party leaders’ meeting.

MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara said a party leaders’ meeting is urgent, given the economic crisis.

Leader of the House Bimal Rathnayake who responded said the party leaders’ meeting could be held later as Parliament will be meeting only on June 9 for the next session.

"We are aware of the economic crisis. The House has already had a two-day debate on the economic situation," he said.
