Colombo, June 15 (Daily Mirror) - A jeweller who turned out ornaments with tusks, teeth, deer horns and bones was arrested and a stock of ornaments seized by a team of wildlife officers from Bulathkohupitiya and Kurunegala wildlife offices during a raid in Bulathkohupitiya area.
The suspect had turned out ornaments with body parts of wild animals under the pretext of having a magical power in them to dispel the malefic influence of planets or other evil elements.
The suspect was turning out ornaments fitted with body parts of wild animals at the time of the raid.
Officials said the suspect had violated the Fauna and Flora Ordinance and the Wildlife Ordinance.
They said they seized a stock of leopard teeth, five rings studded with pieces of tusks, deer horns, and sea shells.
A team of wildlife officials under Bulathkohupitiya Wildlife Range Asst. K. P. U. Karunanayaka had carried out the raid.
