Former Cooperative and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando and two others were released on bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate today over five cases filed by the Bribery Commision on the charges of deploying employees of the Cooperative Wholesale Establishment (CWE) for political activities from 2010 to 2014 and causing a loss of Rs.40 million to the government.
The suspects, former Minister Johnston Fernando, Eraj Fernando (former Chairman) and Mohamad Shakir ( former working director) were released on Rs. 50,000 cash bail for each five cases with two sureties worth five million each for every case by Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya. (Shehan Chamika Silva)
