After having annulled the disease control programme while minimizing the number of diagnoses, the Health Ministry can't blame the people for the spike in COVID infections, Head of the Sri Lankan Association of Government Medical Laboratory Technologists Ravi Kumudesh said.
Speaking to the media he said the statement made by the state minister of Production, Supply and Regulation (Prof.) Channa Jayasumana about the spreading of a new COVID variant in the country was totally baseless.
A controversial statement made by the State Minister claimed that a new variant of the COVID virus spreading in the country and it spreads widely among the youth. Also said that special research is being conducted on it.
However, as far as we know, no such experiments have been made to identify any new COVID variant by the Health Ministry or by the Sri Jayewardenepura University.
In such a situation where the process of identifying variants has been deliberately abandoned, issuing such unscientific statements over the spread of diversity is undue intimidation, Ravi Kumudesh said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
