Super 8 Recap & Semi-Final Schedule

Mar.02 (Mirror Sports) - After four thrilling weeks of action, the Men’s T20 World Cup has reached its decisive stage, with India, South Africa, England and New Zealand powering into the semi-finals.

The tournament now heads into two heavyweight showdowns in India, with a place in the final on the line.

How We Got Here – Super 8 Recap

England were the first team to punch their ticket to the last four, winning their opening two Super 8 matches before completing a perfect record in the phase with victory over New Zealand. The 2022 champions look sharp and balanced at the right time.

New Zealand, despite that loss, progressed from Group 2 after edging out Pakistan on net run-rate. The Black Caps once again proved their tournament temperament under pressure.

From Group 1, South Africa topped the standings and enter the semi-finals as the only unbeaten side in the competition. The Proteas have combined discipline with explosive power, making them serious title contenders.

India joined them in the knockouts with a composed five-wicket victory on Sunday. The defending champions and co-hosts have grown stronger as the tournament has progressed and now carry massive home support into the semi-finals.

Australia were the tournament’s biggest shock exit, crashing out in the group stage after defeats to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

Semi-Final Schedule (Local Times & Venues)

Wednesday, 4 March
South Africa vs New Zealand
Eden Gardens, Kolkata, (07.00 pm)

Thursday, 5 March

When is the Final?

The final will take place on Sunday, 8 March, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Originally, the final would have been staged in Colombo if Pakistan had qualified. However, following their Super 8 exit, the remainder of the tournament will now be played exclusively in India.

Reserve Days & Match Regulations Explained

Both semi-finals have a reserve day scheduled for the day after their original fixtures.

The final also has a reserve day.

Match officials will make every effort to complete games on the scheduled day, with overs reduced if necessary.

  • Semi-finals: 90 minutes of additional time on the scheduled day, 120 minutes on the reserve day.
  • Final: 120 minutes of additional time on both the scheduled day and reserve day.

A minimum of 10 overs per side is required to constitute a match.

If a reserve day is used, play resumes from where it stopped, with the same overs remaining.
