Drugs worth Rs. 133.94 million seized at BIA, three arrested

Colombo, January 25 (Daily Mirror) - Three passengers attempting to smuggle a consignment of “Kush” and “Hashish” valued at approximately Rs. 133.94 million through the Green Channel at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), were arrested by airport Customs officers this morning (25).

The suspects were apprehended by a joint team comprising airport Customs officers and officials of the Customs Narcotics Control.

Those arrested include two 29-year-old residents of Nattandiya—a bricklayer and a businessman—and a 32-year-old businessman from Grandpass, Colombo.

The three had arrived at the Katunayake Airport at around 4.00 a.m. on January 25 from Muscat, Oman, aboard Salam Air flight OV-437.

Customs officials recovered 10 kilograms and 394 grams of “Kush” packed in 10 parcels and 1 kilogram and 912 grams of “Hashish” packed in 18 parcels. The narcotics were concealed in five suitcases.

Arrangements have been made to hand over the suspects along with the seized drugs to the Katunayake Airport Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
