Defamatory letters: Suspects handed over to CCD

The three suspects who were arrested yesterday along with 600 letters containing defamatory remarks against the President at the Central Mail Exchange (CME) in Pettah, were handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) today for further investigations, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.

He said the suspects, K. Sampath Kumara (28), W. M. Dhanusha Priyadarshana (41) and P. Kavindu Thakshila Weerasena (24) were identified as residents of Waththegama, Alawwa and Polgolla respectively.

It was reported that officials of the Mail Exchange opened several letters after becoming suspicious about their contents and discovered that they contained defamatory remarks against the President.
