Colombo, Feb. 2 (Daily Mirror) - Daily Mirror has announced the launch of Mirror AI, its first artificial intelligence-powered article summarisation feature, marking an important step in the publication’s ongoing digital evolution.
Mirror AI has been introduced to help readers quickly understand the key points of a news story through a concise and easy-to-read summary generated directly from the article’s text. Displayed as “AI Summary – Quick Read” on selected articles, the feature allows readers to grasp the most important information at a glance while encouraging them to explore the full story for greater detail and context.
The AI-generated summaries are created solely from the content of each article and do not include external sources, opinions or interpretations. The original article continues to remain the authoritative and complete version of the story, in line with Daily Mirror’s editorial standards and commitment to trusted journalism.
Speaking on the launch, Moiz Mustafa, Digital Media Manager (Development, Strategy & Administration) at Daily Mirror, said:
“As the way people consume news continues to change, newsrooms have a responsibility to adapt without losing sight of accuracy, trust and context. With Mirror AI, we are carefully using artificial intelligence to make our journalism easier to access and engage with, especially for readers who want to quickly understand what matters most. This reflects our commitment to raising digital news standards in Sri Lanka, while continuing to serve readers here and around the world.”
Mirror AI has been developed as a reader-focused enhancement that supports modern news consumption habits while preserving journalistic integrity, depth and credibility.
The launch reflects Daily Mirror’s continued focus on innovation and accessibility, as the newsroom explores responsible ways to use technology in support of quality journalism for audiences both locally and globally.
"Sri Lankan readers are increasingly embracing new technologies to stay informed faster and more efficiently. Recognising this shift, Daily Mirror continues to invest in digital innovations such as Mirror AI, while remaining firmly committed to the trust, credibility and loyal readership it has built over the years." Commenting on the initiative, Lanka Pradeep, Head of Digital Media Operations at Wijeya Newspapers Ltd, said the move reflects the organisation’s focus on adapting to evolving reader habits without compromising journalistic standards. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Daily Mirror web development team, headed by Ishan Fernando, for their work in bringing the Mirror AI feature to life.
Mirror AI is now live on selected Daily Mirror articles, with further enhancements planned in the future.
