Sri Lanka’s first female Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Bimshani Jasin Arachchi has been removed from her duties as the DIG in charge of the Police Ombudsman Range, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He said IGP C.D Wickramaratne had instructed to remove DIG Bimshani with effect from May 1 in line with the program to regularize the police. DIG Rohana said that DIG Bimshani would be appointed to a new post by the IGP soon.
He said following the removal of her, a staff DIG has been appointed to the Police Ombudsman Division.
It is reported that the move to remove DIG Bimshani from her assigned duties comes following the filing of the petition by group of Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs).
