Crane driver suspected to be high on cannabis causes fatal crash in Borella

Colombo, July 28 (Daily Mirror) - The crane driver arrested this morning following the accident near the Kanatta roundabout in Borella, which left one person dead and seven others injured, is suspected to have been under the influence of cannabis at the time of the incident.

The accident occurred when a crane travelling from Rajagiriya towards Bauddhaloka Mawatha collided with six motorcycles and three other vehicles that were stopped at the traffic lights.

The injured were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment, where one of the victims—a 62-year-old resident of Athurugiriya- succumbed to his injuries upon admission. Among the injured are two women and five men.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a brake failure may have contributed to the accident.
