Cop died during protest in Kebithigollewa posthumously promoted as SI

The police sergeant who died due to assault by a group of residents in Kebithigollewa in Anuradhapura, was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sub Inspector (SI) by the IGP.

Police said the officer attached to the Kebithigollewa Police Station, resident of Wariyapola was promoted to the SI with effect from October 31.

He was injured after being attacked by the villagers who were protesting over a wild elephant attack in the village and had died later.

Police said the funeral of the police officer will be held tomorrow in Wariyapola.(DSB)
