Colombo, April 22 (Daily Mirror) - As thousands of devotees gather at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy during the 'Siri Dalada Dekma', the Clean Sri Lanka programme has issued an appeal urging visitors to refrain from bringing non-biodegradable items, especially polythene, to the temple premises.
Highlighting the significance of preserving the sanctity and cleanliness of one of the country's most revered religious sites, the programme emphasises on responsible waste disposal and encourages all devotees to use only designated disposal areas provided around the temple.
The Clean Sri Lanka initiative, a flagship government programme, aims to cultivate a sense of environmental, social and ethical responsibility among citizens. With a strong focus on creating a waste-free environment, the campaign promotes proper waste management practices, especially in locations of cultural and spiritual importance.
In conjunction with the Siri Dalada Dekma, a series of activities under the Clean Sri Lanka banner have been launched around the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. These efforts are designed to support the spiritual atmosphere of the exposition while ensuring the surrounding environment remains clean and respected.
Officials from the programme have called on devotees to unite in upholding the values of environmental stewardship, thereby contributing to a cleaner, greener Sri Lanka.
