Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa said people will have to go with a measuring tape whenever they go to purchase coconuts, referring to the government’s decision to impose maximum retail prices for coconuts depending on the circumference of nuts.
The Government issued a gazette notification, under which the maximum price for a coconut with a circumference of 13 inches will be Rs.70 and a nut with a circumference of 12 to 13 inches will be Rs.65 and a nut with a circumference of 12 inches will be Rs.60.
The Opposition Leader Premadasa said over the weekend that “people will have to take a measuring tape with them to measure the coconut whenever they go to purchase them”.
People might have to take a tape with them when they go to purchase other items as well. Expect more similar procedures in the future,” he added.
“We will soon capture power and put to an end to all sufferings,” Mr. Premadasa said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Premadasa who met the Chief Incumbent of Atamasthana Venerable Pallegama Siriniwasa Thera informed him that SJB will assist the Buddhist Temples and other places of worship whether we would be in the government or in the opposition. (Yohan Perera and Athula Bandara)
