Colombo, June 16 (Daily Mirror) - The Government has approved a proposal to sign an amendment to the existing Air Services Agreement between Sri Lanka and Turkey, with the aim of aligning the tariff framework with internationally accepted standards.

Sri Lanka and Turkey originally signed the Air Services Agreement on December 2, 2008, to govern air transport services between the two countries. As part of efforts to further strengthen the regulatory framework for air services and enhance bilateral aviation relations, discussions were subsequently held between the two governments to review the agreement.

During these discussions, both parties agreed to amend Article 11, which relates to tariffs. The Minutes of Discussions reflecting this agreement were signed on December 7, 2016.

The draft amendment has since received legal clearance from the Attorney General. Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation to formally sign the amendment.

The revised agreement is expected to modernize tariff regulations and bring the bilateral aviation framework in line with international best practices, further strengthening air connectivity and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Turkey.
