Colombo, May 22 (Daily Mirror) - The Ampara District Special Coordinating Committee meeting is scheduled to be held this afternoon (22) at the auditorium of the Ampara District Secretariat under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The President’s Media Division (PMD) said the meeting will focus on reviewing the progress of ongoing development projects in the Ampara District, assessing relief measures provided to communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah, and examining infrastructure development programmes implemented across the region.
Meanwhile, construction work on the Nintavur Cultural Centre, which had been initiated several years ago but remained incomplete, will resume this morning (22) under the President’s patronage.
A total allocation of Rs. 300 million has been provided through the 2026 Budget to restart the project, aimed at preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the Ampara District for future generations. The total estimated cost of the project stands at Rs. 945.04 million, with completion scheduled for 31 December 2027.
In addition, construction of the Ampara Multi-Purpose Town Hall will also commence today under the President’s patronage. The project, designed to address a long-standing infrastructure gap in Ampara town, is being implemented at a cost of Rs. 1,744.85 million and is expected to be completed by 31 December 2028.
The initiatives form part of broader efforts to strengthen regional infrastructure development and public service delivery in the Ampara District.
