144 financial cybercrime cases under investigation this year

Colombo, May 22 (Daily Mirror) - A total number of 144 cybercrime cases are under investigation this year, Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala revealed in Parliament yesterday.

Minister Wijepala who responded to an oral question raised by Rajeevan Jayachandramoorthy, the minister said there are 107 cybercrime cases under investigation in the Western Province, six in Central, one in Southern, three in Eastern, seven in North Western, 11 in North Central and nine in the Northern Province as of April 30 2026.

There are two cybercrime cases pending in courts during the stipulated period according to the Minister.

In addition, some 36 financial cybercrime cases have been solved during this year. Out of 36 solved cases, 29 are from the Western Province, one from Central and six from the Southern Province.

There have been 680 financial cybercrime cases during the year 2025 and 683 in 2024.
