There are no moves to impose islandwide curfew this weekend, as COVID-19 is now contained within the navy cluster and quarantine centres only, a senior government official told Daily Mirror yesterday.

He said that discussions on a nationwide curfew would only be held if there was a sudden spike in the number of new cases among the public, but since there was no transmission of the virus reported within the public since April 30, a weekend curfew would not be imposed. However, curfew will be in place daily between 10.00 pm to 4.00 am and the public are urged not to leave their homes unnecessarily over the weekend. Strict health guidelines would also need to be maintained, which includes wearing facial masks when stepping out, maintaining hand hygiene and maintaining a one-metre distance. Ban on public gathering at social events, religious activities and tuition classes would also continue until further notice and people are urged not to even congregate in others’ residences.
