Gem-swallowing Chinaman gets suspended sentence

The Colombo Chief Magistrate imposed 2 years suspended sentence and Rs. 100,000 fine on the Chinese national who swallowed a fake diamond at an exhibition in Colombo last September.

The sentence was issued on Chinese national Heighnan Chanly Donjil after he pleaded guilty to the charges before the Magistrate.

On September 5, the accused had swallowed a diamond that was on display in a stall at the Gem and Jewllery Exhibition at the BMICH. During the incident another Chinaman who had accompanied the accused had got away with Rs. 1.8 million worth diamond.
