Channel-4 journalists said they would pay the vehicle driver, who drove them to Colombo from Anuradhapura “if he was forced to drive them against his will and at his own cost.”

They claimed that the C-4 crew were forced into van against their wishes by the police.

Tweeting on behalf of the C-4 team currently in Sri Lanka, an editor of the team to whose twitter account the followers of Callum Macrae were directed to, they asked if they also had to pay for “monitoring” which they alleged was continuously happening during their stay.

”Apparently we have 2 pay 4 our enforced van rtn 2 Colombo. Do we also have to pay for police following us constantly, monitoring calls etc?” they tweeted.

The team explaining the circumstances said that “To update readers’ police this morning drove us, in high speed convoy back 2 Colombo. We are now being followed by motorbike & mini hatchback”.

However earlier when contacted by Daily Mirror, military spokesman Ruwan Wanigasuriya denied the claims made by Mr. Macrae and his crew.

“We have no reason to follow them; we are happy that they are here and want them to experience the country first hand. We reject all such allegations and claims because it’s utter nonsense and seems nothing but a ruse for attracting attention,” he said,
