The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has written to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa calling him to request technical support from Russia to initiate the much-needed production and to scale up testing capacity in Sri Lanka.

It said as Sri Lanka was now exploring our strategy, enhancing our national capacity for testing was a crucial step.

“Even after the current lockdown phase, until we find a vaccination, we will have to maintain our testing strategy to identify and isolate cases,” the GMOA said.

“We believe the sustainable approach will be to coordinate national level innovators and producers and provide them with the required technical support to initiate the much-needed production in Sri Lanka,” it added.

“When we evaluate the global situation, it was revealed that the Russian Federation has already helped many countries in the world to establish such lasting solutions,” it affirmed.

The GMOA said in the letter that it would be useful to establish some technical collaboration with the experts in the Russian Federation to support this initiative.

“GMOA Technical Committee on the above subject has identified the list of items which could be requested from the Russian Federation to enhance our facilities,” it added.

Thus, they request the President to secure much needed technical support to boost these activities at the national level, to prepare Sri Lanka for the next phase.
