The Police today denied a message being circulated on WhatsApp saying a higher number of Covid-19 cases had been reported from the Kirulapone and Wellawatte Police areas in recent days.
According to the message which was rapidly circulated, it claimed that 140 and 106 Covid-19 cases were reported in Wellawatte and Kirulapone areas respectively and PCR tests would be conducted in several areas belonging to those Police areas in the coming days.
The Wellawatte Police OIC said that the message circuiting among WhatsApp groups was not the latest one and that it was one which had circulated during the second wave of Covid-19.
He said only 35 Covid-19 cases were reported in the area so far and that also most of them had recovered.
Also the message said that all residents should be careful in getting maids, drivers, tuktuks from Wellawatte and Kirulapone areas.
The Kirulapone Police also said that there was no such higher number of Covid cases reported in his area and there was no truth to such an announcement.
