Hasaranga picked up by RCB for 10.75 crore, becomes most expensive Sri Lankan in IPL history

All-rounder Wanindu Hasanranga will feature for the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the upcoming Indian Premier League season after the franchise forked out a massive 10.75 Crore bid (Rs. 287 million) to re-sign at the IPL player auction held today.

The successful bid was more than 10 times the base price that was given to Hasaranga before the auction.

The Challengers took the bidding above 10 Crore, before the auction was halted when the auctioneer collapsed to the floor suffering from Postural Hypotension.

When the bidding resumed, none of the other franchises showed intent to match the price offered by the Challengers.

Hasaranga was signed by the Challengers for the second leg of last year's IPL, but featured in just two matches.

The all-rounder becomes the first Sri Lankan cricketer to be valued at over 10 Crore, and surpasses the previous highest paid for a Sri Lanka player when the then-Delhi Daredevils paid 7.5 Crore for former captain Angelo Mathews.
