Nalanda dominate drawn Battle of the Maroons

Nalanda College dominated proceedings in their 91st Battle of the Maroons Inter-School Big Match against the traditional rivals Ananda College which ended in a draw at the SSC Grounds in Maitland Place yesterday (08).

The highlight of the second day was a superb five-wicket haul by Jithesh Wasala who helped Nalanda to bowl out their opponents for 150 runs in their first innings.

Ananda were forced to follow and they fell into early trouble once again in their second innings as they lost their top four batsmen with the score at 76.

However, Hansaja Jayasinghe and Dasun Tharaka came to their rescue with the pair associating in a valuable 111-run stand for the fifth-wicket as Ananda ended the day on 225 for seven.

Jayasinghe remained unbeaten on 89 which had 11 boundaries and a six.
